The Indianola Community Foundation had a busy and productive year as the administrative conduit for several working groups and committees that enhanced Indianola in 2009.  These included the overnight stay of RAGBRAI, Keep Indianola Beautiful, a grant to improve programming at the Indianola Senior Center, and banners around The Square.  These combined activities brought over $20,000 of improvements to Indianola.

The Foundation continued to participate in the activities of the Warren Co. Philanthropic Partnership (WCPP) and to help them expend state funds to worthwhile projects.  Community members are encouraged to consider requesting the Indianola Community Foundation be the fiscal agent for Partnership applications to avoid unnecessary administrative work for applications.  The Foundation continues to administer funds for the disc golf course, Easton Park improvements, the Tennis Courts, and Senior Center as examples.

The Foundation also administers an endowment fund for Buxton Park and the parks system, which now has a fund balance of over $87,000.  Citizens of Indianola are encouraged to consider establishing or contributing to endowment funds in areas that interest you.  The Foundation was recently notified of a pending endowment from an estate to benefit youth girls’ softball in Indianola, for example.

Activities planned for 2010 include continuing to help working groups and committees, such as establishing a planning committee to propose a community wellness center for Indianola.  The City of Indianola has agreed to purchase a parcel of land donated to the Foundation and will construct a public safety department storage building on that site.  The Foundation served as a conduit for a successful WCPP grant awarded to the Warren Co. Fair, also.
